My love for Persian cats began while I was volunteering at the local shelter in Torrance Ca. I was 13 years old. I became enamored with the Persians and personalities over the 3 years and this began my journey.
I became friends with one of the Persian rescuers and started helping her show with CFA for several years. Then, I bought my very first pure bred Persian at the International show in Los Angeles CA. She was a stunning white coppered eye girl, I was hooked from then on..
I bought a stunning black smoke male and started my first cattery named Gemini Gems and my very first 2 kittens were named Opal and Annie. Sadly my new born son was allergic and after only 2 liters, my hobby was set aside.
When that same son graduated from High School and was beginning his book camp with USMC (very proud) I started the hunt again... Buying a female show cat and knew it was the restart.
Once I found a male, I tried to reinstate my old cattery name, but sadly it was being used already... :(
So - I decided to use the names from my very first kitten over 18 years earlier. Opal Annies of California. We remained there for years having 1-2 studs and 5-6 females.
We relocated to Arizona 8 years ago, and established a base here and made some amazing breeder friends. Last year my daughter decided to join the team and are thrilled she will be taking an interest in our hobby.. I in turn wanted to make a name change for us to:
~~~ Opal Reys ~~~
My daughter, LaRey had agreed to join us after a few heartbreaking miscarriages. We were thrilled and super excited when she became pregnant after her first litter, so I haven't gotten my name change completed, waiting to see if she finds the time with 3 young daughters to raise...
So - if you hear anything ~strange about my name ~ understand some other breeders consider us competition and have questionable motives to simply cause drama...
(Think mean girls in high school...)
